Masterplan and Station Basauri
Masterplan and Station Basauri
The Master plan aims to give the center of Basauri a distinct new identity and to re-connect formerly separated areas of the city. The new development of the areas of Pozokoetxe, Bidebieta and San Fausto creates new urban linkages between these disconnected areas and joins the secluded urban conditions together, providing a new coherence and unity in Basarui. These linkages appear as diagonal crossings with shallow slopes in cross direction of the area. In longitudinal direction the development works as an extension of the green surrounding of the river bank and the green hills, bringing the green into the city. The former train depot at Pozokoetxe thereby appears together with the Bizkotxaldeko Park as a green oasis in the city. The areas of the train valley in Bidebieta and San Fausto will be fully bridged and because of its elevated position therefore will provide new urban vistas towards the river bank with its green surrounding hills. The Master plan appears as a connector for both new urban coherence and a green continuity. Basauris a very diverse topography and its heterogeneous mix of buildings with different heights define a vibrant and recognizable skyline. The Master plan reacts to this diversity by adding three new landmarks at the border of the area, in relation to the existing highpoints. The development of the Master plan offers the opportunity to add extra public functionality to the city as well as to provide new attractive housing conditions, both private and public. While the upper levels of the buildings will accommodate apartments the ground levels will provide a mixture of housing, public and commercial spaces. The new train station of Basauri will be fully integrated within the chain of green pockets. It appears as an underground station, its roof in the shape of two inclined wings marks the station hall and appears as a sculptural element dividing the areas of San Fausto and Bidebieta.
